In conjunction with YOG this august, Noise has done a showcase, displaying youth artistic vibe and energy in singapore, and I’m more than honored to be chosen as a commissioned designer for the showcase this time. Participated in 3 different areas this time round:

Firstly is the first project that was commissioned, Illustrations on 10 glass bottles that ultimately was made into a hanging lit-up mobile for the Noise House in Changi Airport Terminal 3. The work is titled “Random quotes to do with light”, entirely random as the title says, and since I am always typographically driven, these quotes serve to be the very inspiration themselves.

Illustrations and close-ups of the bottles will be found in the illustrations tab, whereas on-site documentation and rest of the close-ups will be found in commercial tab.

i personally love process shots! these bottles were done on the night/morning of FIFA WORLDCUP2010, when the bottles were done, spain has just won and I’m glad soccer accompanied me all night to finish this project off! that was one tiring sleepless night.

Secondly, was further commissioned afterwards to illustrate a 2m x 6m panel for the front of the Noise House which was ultimately placed at the one at Ion Orchard. Illustration will be found in the illustration tab, on-site documentation will be found in commercial.

Thirdly, is the same work being displayed on busstops after request from NAC. Images from on-site will be found in commercial, there were 2 busstops altogther.

ultimately, this is probably the second time that i have publicly showcased my work and first time then it has been placed extensively in separate places. first time exposure for me and thought it was a great start to more to come! gathered awesome feedback from the organisers at the Changi Airport about people who wanted to buy my works, and even contacts of people who wanted to hold an exhibition for them! such an encouragement, and be sure, that it is definitely not the last you’ll seen ellustrate blasting her works in public with a BANG!

endless doodlin’

July 31, 2010

hello there!

it has been quite a while since i’ve posted here. here’s a quick update about what i’ve been up to.

Last week i wrapped up my Design Internship with Lucidity, a design house, and i must say that i enjoyed my time there and they do hold good standards of design there and it was an enriching and fulfilling 10weeks there having a taste of the design industry.

Once internship ended, I started to put all my focus on some of the outside projects which I have been working on, one big one with Noise Singapore. Recently I have been commissioned as a designer/illustrator for NOISE SHOWCASE 2010. Ofcourse, I cannot publish any of my works as yet as the project is still ongoing. Was happy to know that after being commissioned for the first project, the events company came back to me again asking if I would like to design another component of the showcase, and it wasn’t long before NAC comes asking if I could contribute my designs there as well. And these all have kept me busy ever since! HUGE PHOTOSHOP FILES IS REALLY KILLING MY MACBOOK BLACK AND PHOTOSHOP! Will post up images once my works are being showcased (tentatively early August – Oct) But here’s a SNEEK PEAK of the first commissioned work!

Also, I signed myself up for OIC 4th Anniversary roll-call! Saw it as a chance to really showcase my illustrators to the outside illustration circle and miraculously, even with the NOISE project breathing down my neck, I managed to submit 3 works in say, 2 days? I guess when it boils down to serious illustrations, I really make myself work fast and to my own standard. Sure was I glad that I made it in time for the submissions! Again, not very right to start posting the illustrations when is meant for OIC, shall post on a later date! but I WILL post them (:

Just did an illustrative poster for my school, ADM GradBash 2010 for our 2nd Graduating Batch and boy am i going to miss my seniors, seriously, they’ve been great korkor and jiejies to me, teaching me how to handle failed printers and spoilt connections and hanged softwares. and I

will them all the best! details up in illustration tab!

And I’m quite happy endlessly doodling and earning money for FYP! hahaa. which reminds me, more research! Also I have yet to post up my last-semester’s packaging and publication works. Shall do so when I feel hardworking and up to it.

habitual sleepless nights

February 22, 2010

just added in a few more projects and pieces in!

A campaign touching on issues concerning Singapore society. we strived to propose a campaign that comprised of a pasam malam selling sustainable products made by locals, with Singlish as our visual theme as we feel that we should embrace Singlish as our cultural identity.

check out the posters and visuals in graphics, books and handmade items in handmade.

posted up in the handmade section is my work-in-progress packaging of malay toys. I just did the 3rd member of this nice family, the indian little girl (: will try to get a shot and post it up soon but i’m really enjoying this packaging project now. am looking forward to the final results.

freelance wise, am starting to work on a publication/brochure for an upcoming dance concert. sounds nice.

and with the workload climbing insanely high, sleepless nights are getting more and more habitual. but we’ll all pull through in the end.

i’ve just updated my portfolio by creating a new catagory!

here is a collection of my handmade craft, books i made, packaging boxes constructed for projects, and things done by hands. do go check it out!!

also updated my photography tab by loading up some photos taken from trip to genting last hols!

more updates more lobangs,

i just settled my freelance with YCH group on their CNY Card design, will upload them soon once I receive the card delivered from them (: also, will be starting a freelance/project collaboration with someone who is setting up a shoe blogshop. she emailed me asking if im interesting in some shoe illustrations, sketching and photography which sounds really interesting so i took it! and i got another job in designing brochure for an upcoming dance concert which sounds exciting and TIDEOUS.

sometimes i dont understand why do i keep on accepting jobs that comes my way when school’s getting way too busy!!! maybe like what prof joe said, “it’s not that we’re so money-minded but time is money! and we need to feed our ricebowl!” agreed. and i’ll pull through i hope. HAHA (:

till then, continue to inspire, design and illustrate! peace.

after all the rushing of final projects for the sem, it was time to take a nice break in the december hols. but sorry for the delay in uploading my final projects. it just shows that i’ve been using my time very thoroughly to play and relax before the nx sems comes threatening again.

my final projects for graphic design and typography is uploaded in my graphics tab.

updated my illustration tab with some past work i forgot to put in.

updated my resumé with my latest cgpa too, not much of a difference actually.

and currently i’m helping a company design their CNY card, and flash, job i got from a goodfriend. and just did a mural painting with some friends as well, and did a small christmas proj/gift for my churchfriends (which i will upload SOON) and thats pretty much all the designing i’ve been doing this hols.

pinkrangerpower and intuos4

Had a recent submission for my Digital Painting module under Martin Constable. (check out his website when clicking on his name) Our final assignment was about painting yourself with an alter ego or a superhero that you dream of becoming, and for me, it’s definitely, pink ranger!

Been dreaming about being kimberly since young and going uber crazy over that little pink superhero.

And so here is the process that I have documented down from my photoshoot to my subsequent digital composition which I did after that, then going into painting that whole piece out, from blocks of ink and general painting, getting the shades and highlights, into details, and then colour corrections, with the painting in of her emblem, and more twigging and working on general outlook and details,

Final outlook and details uploaded in the graphics tab.

Have been impossibly busy with submissions that there is hardly enough time to post all of the submitted works thus far here. I’ve uploaded recent works from my Photo Imaging (Black and white photography) module, final 15 fiber-based prints.

And irresistably bounded them all into a book using piano hinge bind. However, it was quite a painful process because of the mistake I made in choosing the wrong paper to bind, ie, hard 200gsm paper so it was really hard to fold and bound, and got bloody fingernails as a result of pressing repetitively on the paper too much : (

But ultimately, it’s done.
